PAX East! And Toronto Wizard World

PAX East was last weekend and it was AMAZING. I met a whole bunch of lovely Bioware cosplayers, as well as some of the brilliant minds behind the games and had an all around amazing time. I was fortunate enough to borrow lightpriestess‘ Morrigan costume on the Friday of the con and had a great time. Being Morrigan has motivated me to not only get my butt in gear to finish Leliana, but I’ve also added Morrigan to my list. She’s one of my favourite characters, and I’m glad I’m able to do her justice. I also made the prototype for my Mass Effect N7 Armor inspired dress (worn by lightpriestess). If you are interested in getting one of these in the future, let me know! Best way to contact me is through my email (cosplay@oliviasatelier.com), or you can check the Contact Me page on my website here.

Wizard World Toronto is tomorrow! I don’t know what I’m wearing, but I will be in the area. If I have the time to get my leggings remade, I’ll be in Black Widow II. If not, I haven’t gotten anything new done yet so…probably some form of Ice. We shall see!

Post-Con-G

So, the first con of the year for me has come and gone, and what a con. Rolled up around 1pm with Gill and Alex. Gill and I changed into our costumes and then wandered around to try to see everyone we hadn’t seen since June. I managed to get my Winter Olympics Peach costume done, and that went over great. It was lovely seeing so many people I haven’t seen in forever and just hanging out with friends. Definitely my favourite part of con. We originally weren’t planning on staying over, but we managed to get a room at the last minute to make things more enjoyable.

And then we partied the night away, I got to know some people better, make new friends and generally had an awesome time. I already can’t wait for the next one. I wish I could go to MTAC/MTCC to see people, but I’m stuck working, which is balls. I’m going to try to make it to PAX East though, which should be AWESOME, as well as Toronto Wizard World, of course.

As far as the website goes, other than some new shoots and costumes, the costumes section is up to date. Still waiting on my banner, but now that school’s started up, he’s having trouble making time for it. So hopefully that’ll be done sooner than later, but…meh. At least there’s something.

Holidays!

Apologies! The website is in need of an update here. I’m hoping my roommate will have time to get my banner done and my new graphics before his break is over. I want this place finished before I have to renew my domain! I’ve also got to get those new costumes up, though I need to get them photographed.

I got a Sweetie Belle costume done to run around with the Dangerous Ladies as Rarity and Pinkie, Gina as Scootaloo and Alex as Spike. The only photo I have of it completed is here on my tumblr. I feel like such a slacker for not having more for you. The cape was made by Gina. Many thanks to her!

In other news, I got another job, so hopefully I can continue to pump out new costumes and make it to more events. After the holidays I’ll probably finally quit my other job to focus on the one awesome job. So that’s exciting. I love my new coworkers, and I’m finally working in a kitchen.

Happy holidays to everyone! I hope the season is awesome and New Year’s is awesome. Look forward to changes in the new year! Love you all!

Halloween and More – The Recap!

Eek! Apologies! I’ve got so many thing going on here, I forgot to actually update the blog here. Hello!

I guess the big thing that has happened since my last update is that Halloween has come and gone. For Halloween, we decided to do an Alpha Flight group. So I made Guardian, Vindicator, Aurora and Northstar for myself and friends, while Gina made Snowbird. We ended up winning “Best Group” for the second year in a row at the Silver Snail Halloween Party. And that was pretty cool. Hopefully I’ll remember to get pictures of that up soon.

I also made and wore a “generic Kokiri female” from Ocarina of Time to hang out with my friends at the Skyward Sword release event at the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto. We got to take pictures with the cosplayers who were there for Nintendo, including PikminLink. The next day was also the mini Hobbystar ComicCon, which always blows. But we hung out as “DC Girls in Sweaters“. Myself, Gill, Gina, and Jenn and Christine of the Dangerous Ladies had a good time just hanging out and taking pictures.

Lastly, I have made a tumblr! Check it out!

Gettin’ ‘er done

I’ve been plugging away at the website again, trying to finally get things a semblance of complete. I added the costumes I wore from Anime North to Dragon*Con to the Costume page. Need to finish updating the “Film, Music and Television” section, as well as my original designs and modelling work. Once those are done, expect the page to change completely, as I attempt to have it all make sense.

Commissions are open again! Please check the commission page for more details on that!

As always, for the most updated information on my costuming shenanigans, please check out my Page on Facebook, or my Twitter. 🙂

Of birthdays, FanExpo and Dragon*Con

It has been a very busy few weeks here at the Atelier, and I apologize for not updating!

First, my birthday came and went. We went to Medieval Times and had awesome drunken times cheering for the Red Knight. I do love me some red. 😉

FanExpo was the weekend after that. I ended up wearing my Batgirl with Gillykins as Huntress on the Friday, Eternal Sailor Neptune with a full group of senshi on Saturday, and my closet Twilight Sparkle costume over top of my Psylocke on Sunday. We had a blast all three days, and I got to hang out with some of my closest friends.

Then there was Dragon*Con. I was not aware that it was possible to have so much fun at a convention. It was possibly the best experience of my life, and I am so so so glad I went and was social. I made some amazing friends, and I can’t wait to see them again.

I’m hoping I can make it out to MegaCon in Florida in February. I’m going to try my hardest. Even if it means skipping Christmas. (No one cares anyways.)

Cheers!

Otaku House and recent features

Hey guys! How odd that I’m posting so soon!

First things first! I finally caved and entered the Otaku House cosplay idol competition with my Sailor Neptune costume. If you get the chance, I’d love it if you could go vote for me. :D

Secondly! I’ve now been featured on Comics Alliance’s “Best Cosplay Ever (This Week)” for the second time. This time with my recently uploaded Batgirl photo, “Find Another Path”. Go check it out!

If you’re interested in the other feature, it was for “In the Belly of the Beast”, one of my Soranik Natu photos, for their Green Lantern week.

Toronto Cosplay Picnic

Just a quick post to say a couple things!
I’m not dead! Just been very busy working. Real life sorta caught up with me and now I’m moving (sorta) at the end of July. Kind-of exciting.

The Toronto Island Cosplay Picnic was this past weekend. I ended up wearing my recently made Brave and the Bold Ice costume. It was more comfortable than I was expecting, so I’m glad I can still be Tora and not die in hot weather. (As I learned my main costume does not bode well for summer.)

I’m currently working on finishing up some commissions, and making Odette from The Swan Princess. I was able to get lovely fabric for it for cheap because of the store closing. So I’m really looking forward to that.

Also! I will be attending FanExpo this year in some capacity. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be wearing, but I do know I won’t be going inside at all, and that I will be borrowing Eternal Sailor Neptune off the very talented Amber for the Saturday. I’m really excited to be part of their group. Dragon*Con is the week after, which I’m actually attending, and I’ve got…some costumes picked out for it. What I bring will mostly depend on space, since we’re driving down.

This was longer than I thought it would be. Oh dear!

Post-AN + Atomic Moo

So AN has come and gone. It was mostly good, and I got to hang out with some people I really don’t see enough, so that was awesome. Party times were had, and my mother was awesome enough to make a Katamari cake for my boyfriend’s birthday. (Complete with fondant Prince rolling the Katamari.) I’m hoping to have pictures and updates of costumes soon, specifically Hanako & Taro and Daisy.

In other news, the geeky blog Atomic Moo has done a feature post on me. You should definitely go check it out. It’s kind-of hilarious, but also awesome. A big thank you to them for this.
